The mAT-180H is a tuner specifically designed for Icom and Kenwood radios.
It can be used on all radios from these manufacturers that are equipped with the corresponding tuner socket.
An Icom tuning cable is included, while the Kenwood cable is available optionally.
You can also connect wire antennas or a two-conductor fed antenna. The max. permissible transmit power is 120 W PEP, for RTTY and other continuous wave modes approx. 30 W. The control cable usually initiates operation via the "Tune" or "AT" button on the transceiver. The tuning process is carried out automatically, including reduction of transmit power, switching to CW and vice versa. There is also the possibility to manually tune the tuner (L and C). The mAT-180H tuner stores tuning settings for each frequency in memory. 16000 memory locations are available for this purpose. If a known frequency is used again, the setting is read from memory and the tuning process is completed in less than 0.2 seconds. If a new frequency is used or if a new frequency needs to be tuned (and stored), the process takes max. 5 seconds. The tuner can also be switched to bypass mode via the front key if the antenna does not require any adjustment on a given band. The tuning range covers an impedance range of approx. 5 to 1500 Ohms, which is much more than normal built-in tuners can handle. Power is supplied via the control cable from the transceiver.
What's included:
-mAT-180H Tuner
-mAT-CI Icom control cable
FULL DESCRIPTION
The mAT-180H provides automatic antenna tuning across the entire HF spectrum plus 6 meters, at power levels up to 120 watts. It will tune dipoles, verticals, yagis, or virtually any coax-fed antenna. It will match an amazing range of antennas and impedances, far greater than other tuners you may have considered, including the built-in tuners on many radios. The mAT-180H is an automatic antenna tuner specially designed for modern ICOM and KENWOOD HF transceivers. It has two control cables to choose from: mAT-CI and mAT-CK. They are suitable for ICOM and KENWOOD transceivers respectively. With the corresponding control cables, the tuners can be used for the corresponding transceivers. The standard mAT-180H accessories only contain the ICOM control cable mAT-CI, if you need mAT-CK, please purchase it additionally. When the mAT-180H is used with an ICOM transceiver via the mAT-CI control cable, it is fully compatible with ICOM's original AH-3 and AH-4 automatic tuners. Transceivers that can use both ICOM tuners can also use the mAT-180H, which includes the IC-706, 703, 718, 7000, 7100, 7200, 7300, 7410, 746, 756, 7600 series transceivers.
When the tuner is used with a KENWOOD transceiver via the mAT-CK control cable, it is fully compatible with original KENWOOD tuners, such as AT-250, AT-300. KENWOOD transceivers that can use the mAT-180H are TRC-80, TK-80, TS-2000, 50, 450, 480SAT (excluding HX version), 570, 590, 850, 870, 990, etc. Other types of transceivers can use the mAT-180H as long as they support KENWOOD AT-300 tuners. KENWOOD TS-430, TS-440 are too old to use this tuner.
The mAT-180H has 16,000 frequency memories. When tuning to or near a previously tuned frequency, the mAT-180H uses "Memory Tune" to recall previous tuning parameters in a fraction of a second. If no stored settings are available, the tuner performs a full tuning cycle, storing the parameters for recall in memory in subsequent tuning cycles on that frequency. In this way, the mAT-180H "learns" as it is used, adapting to bands and frequencies as it goes.
There are four fine-tuning buttons on the front panel of the mAT-180H, and sometimes a lower SWR can be achieved with them. It also has a "TUNE" button on the front panel, which can also initiate tuning.
To facilitate the use of wire antennas, in addition to having two standard SO-239 RF sockets, the rear panel of the mAT-180H has two terminals, one red and one black. The red terminal connects the antenna, the black terminal connects the ground cable. The mAT-180H connects to the transceiver via the tuner jack to control the tuning cycle; the transceiver's tune button controls the tuner. The tuner jack also powers the tuner, so it requires no external power.
The mAT-CI control cable, used to connect the mAT-180H to the ICOM transceiver, transmits control commands and power. It is the standard accessory for the tuner and is supplied with the tuner.
The mAT-CK control cable, used to connect the mAT-180H to the KENWOOD transceiver, transmits control commands and power. It is not a standard accessory for the tuners; it is an optional device.
