ICOM announces the debut of the new IC-R6 handheld receiver. This new model retains the main features of its popular predecessor, the IC-R5, with new features added in a newly designed case:

- Wide operating range from 100 kHz to 1309.955 MHz in AM, FM FMW;

- High scan speed up to 100 ch/sec;

- Operating autonomy up to 15 hours of reception (with the supplied rechargeable batteries), 50 mW audio output and 8 ohm external speaker;

- 1300 total memory channels divisible into 22 banks, 50 memories for scan limits and 200 memories with automatic recording function;

- 150 mW audio output;

- VSC squelch audio control function;

- Built-in ferrite antenna to improve medium wave reception;

- PC control via optional CI-V interface;

Wide reception range: 0.100 to 1309.995 MHz: The IC-R6 extends the reception frequency downwards starting from 100 kHz. Amateur radio, AM (medium wave), FM, shortwave broadcast stations, analog television broadcast audio (digital TV broadcast audio cannot be listened to) and a variety of utility stations can be listened to;

Fast scanning, up to 100 channels per second: In VFO mode, a scanning speed of 100 channels per second can be achieved. This increases the potential and efficiency during scanning across the entire spectrum up to 1300 MHz.

- Up to 15 hours of battery life: The IC-R6 has been designed to achieve maximum operational efficiency and the lowest possible current consumption. With the supplied Ni-MH rechargeable batteries, it can provide up to 15 hours of continuous reception (50 mW audio output to an 8 ohm external speaker).

- 1300 memory channels, 22 banks with 6 alphanumeric character display: The IC-R6 offers 1300 memories, 50 scan limits and 200 memories with automatic writing.
The normal 1300 memory channels can be grouped into 22 banks (maximum 100 channels per bank) and bank scanning allows you to choose the desired banks for searching. Each memory, bank or scan limit can be identified with a text of up to 6 alphanumeric characters.

- 150 mW audio output: The low frequency circuit with BTL technology doubles the audio output level. The 36 mm diameter speaker is capable of handling 150 mW* output even in particularly noisy environments such as the cabin of a moving vehicle.

- Optional desktop charger: The optional desktop tray charger, BC-194, charges the Ni-MH batteries easily and eliminates the need to connect and disconnect the unit from the AC adapter.

- VSC squelch audio control: The VSC function only unlocks the audio when a modulated signal is received and ignores unmodulated carriers.

 

Other features:

- Through the optional earphone cable, AM aeronautical range and FM broadcasting reception are improved;

- High frequency stability ±1.0ppm;

- Low pass audio filter for high audio frequency noise reduction;

- Optional CI-V level converter (CT-17) for PC control;

- Optional air earphone (SP-27);

 

- DC power socket: The DC power socket for operation via the BC-196SD AC adapter or via the CP-18E cigarette lighter plug cable. Ni-MH batteries are recharged during operation.
The applicable supply voltage for this socket is 4.5 VDC (4.5 ~ 6.3 VDC).

- Compact, moisture-resistant construction: The IC-R6 has an ultra-compact enclosure of reduced dimensions (58 x 86 x 29.8 mm) and weighs only 200 g. It easily fits in the palm of your hand or shirt pocket and its moisture-resistant construction is ideal for outdoor use.

- Ferrite antenna for AM: The internal ferrite antenna allows optimal reception with good sensitivity of AM medium wave stations. This allows listening to these stations without the need to connect an external antenna.

- CTCSS and DTCS: CTCSS and DTCS tones allow silent standby reception waiting for a signal with the correct tone to be decoded. This simplifies monitoring of, for example, a particular repeater or station, etc. The tone scan function reveals the tone frequency used on a channel. The pocket beep function alerts with an acoustic signal when a signal with the correct tone is received.

- PC programming: Using the optional CS-R6 cloning software, memory contents (frequency, name, category, group name, settings, etc.) can be easily set.
