Icom IC-905 – All Mode VHF/UHF/SHF SDR Transceiver
The IC-905 is a development of Icom's recent SHF project “Super High Frequency Band Challenge” (SHF-P1), recently launched at Tokyo Hamfair 2022.
The IC-905 is the first multi-band VHF/UHF/SHF transceiver with coverage of 144/430/1200/2400/5600 MHz and 10 GHz (the latter band with optional CX-10G transverter) and multi-mode SSB, CW, RTTY, AM, FM including ATV (Amateur TV) in analog FM and D-STAR “Digital Smart Technologies for Amateur Radio” (DV/DD modes). DD mode allows data transmission up to 128 kbps, with the ability to also act as a D-STAR access point and operate in terminal mode.
With an innovative design, this new Icom radio features a controller with the same form factor as the IC-705 and an RF module for outdoor installation. This design choice minimizes the length of the TX/RX coaxial line, thus minimizing RF losses for maximum efficiency. With the adoption of PoE (Power over Ethernet) technology, the connection is made with a single LAN cable, providing greater installation flexibility and the possibility of remotely powering the RF module, which can be placed in the immediate vicinity of the antennas. The adoption of a high-precision clock signal (1PPS) obtained from a GNSS antenna allows for frequency compensation of the OCXO.
The RF power on the 144/430/1200 MHz bands is 10W, on the 2400/5400 MHz bands it is 2W, while at 10 GHz it is 0.5W.
Many accessories and functions are shared with the IC-705, such as the SD Card slot for storing radio parameters, voice memories, frequency memories, photos, and audio recording of QSOs, etc.
The 4.3" color TFT touch screen allows for quick and intuitive operations with an oscilloscope and a high-performance spectrum analyzer with a Waterfall function that displays the signal intensity variation over time and detects even the weakest signals for a detailed overview of the band in operation.
