Heil Pro 7 iC is an aviation-style headset designed for amateur radio use in high-noise environments.
Specially designed foam-gel ear pads provide a 26 dB reduction in outside noise and offer exceptional comfort. A true dual-channel stereo headset, the Pro 7 features an audio balance control that allows the user to adjust the left earpiece level to match the right.
A unique phase reversal switch greatly helps the listener to "dig out" weak signals.
The latest version of the Pro 7 features a monitor jack, allowing a second operator to connect headphones and monitor the audio.
The Pro 7's flexible gooseneck microphone boom can be rotated for use on either the right or left ear.
Two production versions are available, depending on whether a dynamic or electret microphone element is required.
However, microphone elements are easily interchangeable, allowing elements to be swapped for use with different rigs or for contest or DX purposes. Check out the different element options here.
Heil Pro 7 headsets will work with current AD-1 series adapter cables and accessories. Consult our Adapter Selector to find the right cable for your radio. The Pro 7 is available with a dynamic or iC electret element.
The Pro 7 is available with a dynamic or iC electret element. Additional or replacement elements, including the HC-74 Contest/DX element, can be purchased separately here. All Pro 7 models are available in black, blue, or red finishes and include the following accessories:
- Large PTT switch.
- Military-grade straight cable.
- Military-grade coiled cable.
- Extra set of ear pads.
- Removable and washable cotton ear pad covers.
The balance control located on the left speaker controls the left speaker.
To use, set a comfortable right-side level with the receiver's AF gain. You can then adjust the left-side speaker as needed to balance the audio between the speakers.
In most cases, the balance control will be near maximum.
The Pro 7 Dynamic features a low-distortion HC-7 dynamic microphone element designed to work with most radio equipment, including Kenwood and Yaesu.
The HC-7 shows a frequency response of 100 Hz – 12 kHz with -3dB points at 100 Hz and 12 kHz.
The traditional Heil speech articulation boost is centered at 2KHz - 4KHz with properly balanced highs and lows.
Impedance is 600 ohms.
The HC-7 is one of our best microphones for speech articulation.
Note: To use dynamic microphone elements on vintage radios (which require a 10k to 30k ohm high-impedance input), an XT-1 impedance matching transformer will be required.
The Pro 7 iC comes with the Heil iC electret microphone element designed to work with ICOM radios.
The iC element uses bias power in ICOM radios, addressing low-gain issues encountered when using dynamic elements. The -3dB points are fixed at 80 Hz and 12.5 kHz. The iC element requires a +5 volt DC bias supply, which is provided by all ICOM rigs. iC adapters do not have an internal DC blocking capacitor, so the bias voltage can be passed through, allowing the iC electret element to operate.
