LW-20 HF QRO, 1kW multi-band Long Wire antenna, 80-6m
Description
The ECO ANTENNE LW range is the UNUN 9:1. This provides a feed point
for the long wire radiating element and converts the impedance from 450 Ohms (+/-) to
something closer to the 50 Ohms expected by your transceiver. There are three connections
on the UNUN, an SO-239 to which you connect your coaxial feedline, and two stud-type screws
with wing nuts. One of these is connected to the wire antenna, and the other serves
to connect a piece of wire to ground. This connection is not strictly necessary, but
it will reduce static electricity and provide a direct ground connection for any lightning or static build-up
in the air. The best way to do this is to connect a piece of wire to a ground stake and
attach it to the UNUN at this terminal. Mount the feed point as high as possible: it can be
attached to a pole or a wall, then connect the other end of the wire to a point as far
away as possible. This is advisable if the wire can be kept straight and horizontal.
But if this is not possible due to space constraints, do not despair. The wire can be bent, angled, or mounted in various ways to fit the available space.
The LW-20 will operate on all HF bands from 80 to 6 meters with an external antenna tuning unit (ATU).
The other end of the coaxial cable must be connected to the ATU and then from the ATU
to the transceiver. Switch on, make the final adjustments to tune and you're good to go.
Use good quality 50 Ohm coaxial cable: RG-213 or Mini 8 are probably the best choices.
*The 1 kW power rating is for intermittent amateur radio use (CW or PEP); for data modes (FT-x, RTTY, etc.) or constant carrier data modes, a lower maximum of 200 Watts is recommended.
*If using a high-power amplifier, it is essential to use an external antenna tuning unit between the antenna and the amplifier, otherwise damage may occur.
