PLT 12 SPID Spiderbeam
12m Spiderbeam HD Fiberglass Pole
Spiderbeam Heavy Duty fiberglass poles are perfect for building all types of wire antennas.A single person can easily set it up in minutes. Specifically developed to make portable equipment even more robust and durable!
These poles are extremely strong, with much thicker walls (up to 2mm!) than common "fishing rods". They are built with a special reinforced winding technique – several layers of fiberglass are wound in alternating directions (cross-winding) – providing great linear and lateral strength. The joints are more secure due to a larger overlapping surface between individual segments compared to common ones.
These 12m Heavy Duty Spiderbeam supports are ideal for building 40/80/160m wire GP or inverted L antennas.
They can also be used as temporary support for a light Single Element Quad or Delta loop for 20-10m, and dipoles for all bands, especially if open feeder lines (ladder line) are used. (Many baluns are quite heavy). 4-6 poles can be used to build lightweight directional antennas for 40 or 80m.
The final segment (tip) has a diameter of 8mm (and 1.4mm thickness), so the support can be used for all 12m of its length – unlike others where the final segment is very thin. During our tests, we placed inverted V dipoles for 80m (built with 1mm diameter (AWG18) wire and open feeder line) right at the top of the 12m... Impossible to do with common "fishing rods"! At 9-10m height, it can support small VHF/UHF yagis.
The best (and cheapest) wire to use for these applications (verticals, loops, dipoles etc.) is AWG 18 (= 1mm diameter) copper-clad wire or similar. Monofilament fishing line (1mm diameter) or 1.8-2.5mm bayco is very suitable for guy wires.
