HEXBEAM 6 Bands by SP6CYN
The HEX6BEAM is an antenna for the six bands 20, 17, 15, 12, 10, and 6m. The design follows the ideas of G3TXQ, who was the first to present this antenna. However, the mechanical construction has been perfected by SP6CYN by selecting the best, most resistant materials, including stainless steel. The result is an efficient portable antenna for classic DX bands, which can also be used for DXpeditions and holidays thanks to its low weight.
The HEX6BEAM operates as a two-element directive antenna on each band. The ready-to-use wires and ropes are attached to the fiberglass rods; no tuning is required! Due to the mechanical tension of the spreaders, the beam is stretched to fixed dimensions all the time, there is no sagging in the wires. The radiator dipoles are connected to the central vertical support, each having its own screw terminals. The central support is designed as a coaxial transformer and balun. This transformer is responsible for an excellent match on each band and for the fact that only one feed line is needed for all bands. The gain is approximately 3 dBD or higher, the front-to-back ratio is between 13 and 22 dB. The matching transformer achieves an SWR of 1.2:1 or better on all bands. Each band can be used across its entire bandwidth without a tuner. The maximum permissible power is 1.5 kW. The fiberglass tubes are double-coated against UV radiation. The HEX6BEAM band setup is simple and can be done by one person in approx. 30 minutes. For installation, the 6 spreaders are assembled and attached to the central pole. Pre-cut ropes from the top of the central pole to each spreader are installed for the typical curved hexagonal beam shape. Then the pre-cut wires are attached to the spreaders and electrically connected to the central pole. All ropes and wires are already cut to size, no adjustment is required. Due to its low weight of only 12 kg, the hexbeam can be installed on a light aluminum push-up mast. Rotation can be done with a small 12V rotor or manually. The HEX6BEAM can be installed on masts with a diameter from 28 to 52 mm.
